A three-year project promoted by "Valtellina che Gusto!" and co-financed by the European Commission with 1.5 million euro. The project aims to enhance the mountain products, PDO and PGI from the Valtellina.
The international project `Taste The Alps' is the three-year promotional project (2018-2021) promoted by the Distretto Agroalimentare di Qualità della Valtellina that takes the name "Valtellina che Gusto!". The project aims to increase the awareness, the knowledge and consumption of the PDO and PGI products of the Valtellina territory: the Bresaola della Valtellina PGI, the Bitto PDO and Valtellina Casera PDO cheeses, the Valtellina PGI apples, the Pizzoccheri della Valtellina PGI and the Red wines of Valtellina DOC / DOP, Valtellina Superiore DOCG / PDO, Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG / DOP and Alpi Retiche PGI.
Valtellina territory is located in the heart of northern Italy, in the north of Lombardy region, on the border between Italy and the Swiss canton of Grigioni, and it is the only major Alpine river valley running from east to west. It is 120 kilometres long and about 65 wide.
From the broad valley floor to the snow-capped peaks that touch the sky, there is a string of cultivated green meadows, vineyards, apple orchards, woods, mountain pastures, high-altitude grassland and glaciers. It is here in this rich varying landscape, and in a long and skillful local tradition tied to agriculture and the caring of the land, where the Valtellinese products of excellence were born.
Taste The Alps has a double purpose: on the one hand, highlighting the mountain origins of the products and at the same time reinforcing consumer awareness and recognition of European Union quality systems, in particular for products with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or Protected Geographic Indication (PGI).
